My name is John Posey and I am the owner of the Raleigh, NC office of Home Instead Senior Care. I am involved with the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk in my area and the association has their very own Memory Walk hCard.

I want to express my delight at how the hCards I have bought my employees have been received. My employees think it is the best gift I have ever given them and many have used the Roadside Plan which helps my employees show up on time at my client’s homes. My office staff giggles when they find the incredible deals on the weekly emails you send.

“Just a quick note to thank you again for bringing the hCard to us.  I know we are just beginning with its connection to Memory Walk, but I feel like our goal of selling 15,000 hCards this year is absolutely achievable.  I have been doing fundraising and development for the Chapter for twelve years and this is by far the greatest idea I’ve seen. “It’s taking folks online to do their fundraising so they don’t have to do the door-to-door stuff,” Burnett says.

By buying an hCard, which offers discounts at a variety of stores and restaurants throughout the U.S., including Red Lobster, Starbucks and Barnes & Noble, customers direct half of the $25 cost to the charity or school of their choice.

The card also offers discounts on prescription drugs, as well as roadside-assistance and emergency-contact services.

More than 2,000 hCards have been purchased or given out so far in 28 states, Burnett told The News & Observer in Raleigh.

Already more than 100 schools and nonprofit groups have signed up to post the hCard link on their websites, and three to six new clients sign up daily, Burnett says.

“Signing up takes three minutes, and it’s free,” she says.

“I have medical insurance as a corporate retiree that includes prescription coverage, but has a $25.00 per month co-pay for brand name prescriptions. I took one of these prescriptions to the pharmacy at a Wal-Mart Superstore. They priced the prescription at about $64.00 for a three month supply, offering a slight savings of $11.00 over three months. I then asked them to price that prescription using my hCard discount prescription card which I had printed on my home computer. That brought the cost of the three month supply down to about $28.00. This means that the $25.00 annual cost of my hCard was more than recovered with one three-month prescription as I saved a total of $36.00 based on the pharmacy price!”

It turned out that with my insurance, this one was only going to cost me $.98, but in her words, she said: ‘Oh, I’ve seen that card many times!’ I asked if she knew how much it helped those people who used it. She went into her computer and while she didn’t share any names, she did look up one person’s prescription and added these words: ‘Their prescription would have cost $156, but with ‘that Card’, they only paid $48.’ She couldn’t believe it when I told her the hCard only cost $25! She wrote down the information so she could order her parents, as well as herself, an hCard!”
